PSAI Divemaster Course
PSAI Divemaster is the first professional level in the PSAI system. The PSAI Divemaster course prepares divers to supervise certified scuba divers and assist instructors in diver training.
Purpose
The PSAI Divemaster program provides training for individuals who wish to supervise PSAI Sport Divers. If the supervision is for a Sport Diving Specialty course or dive, the Divemaster-Assistant Instructor must be certified in that particular specialty and have logged sufficient number of dives. The dive experience recommendations are as follows:
1. At least 10 dives for:
a. Deep Diver.
b. Night Diver.
c. Low Visibility Diver.
2. At least 5 dives for any other general specialty.
PSAI Divemaster-Assistant Instructors may supervise, escort, and assist in PSAI Open Water Diver Courses. They may act in the capacity of an Assistant Instructor under the direct supervision of a PSAI Master Instructor. Also under the direct supervision of a PSAI Master Instructor they may conduct Open Water Diver Course training exercises thereby gaining valuable experience prior to taking an Open Water Instructor IQC.
Prerequisites
A Divemaster candidate must be or have

PSAI Nitrox Diver certification (or equivalent)

PSAI Rescue Diver certification (or equivalent)

Current Oxygen Provider

Current in First Aid
-
Proof of a minimum of fifty (50) logged scuba dives

At least 18 years of age

At least 10 dives for:
a. Deep Diver
b. Night Diver
c. Low Visibility Diver -
At least 5 dives for any other general specialty.
Program
In addition to the requirements described in the General Guidelines for All Professional Instructor Qualification Course:
The Divemaster-Assistant Instructor candidate must log a minimum of two hundred forty (240) minutes of bottom time on dives or in Open Water Diver courses under the direct supervision of a PSAI Master Instructor. The performance of the Divemaster-Assistant Instructor candidate must be to the satisfaction of the PSAI Master Instructor.

Must perform and demonstrate all the skills of the PSAI Open Water Diver program at a professional proficiency level to the PSAI Master Instructor’s satisfaction.

Must perform and demonstrate all the skills of the PSAI Rescue Diver program at a professional proficiency level to the PSAI Master Instructor’s satisfaction.
To be certified as a PSAI Divemaster-Assistant Instructor, the candidate must:

Attend the complete Divemaster Course.

Perform all skills and assignments at professional level quality.

Provide complete and correct information, including alternatives to the candidates “favorite” technique, in dive related skills.

Complete all written examinations, record keeping and critiques at instructional level competency.
